Welcome Letter

Welcome Letter

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Just 6 months ago we could never have predicted that we would be inviting you to join us in cyberspace for the first fully online ESID meeting. Instead of getting together in Birmingham as planned, we will now be meeting online. And we are expecting it to be an exceptional event!

If you haven’t already, do look at the preview of the online conference centre.

We really will be able to replicate almost everything we do at traditional meetings in this online space. Networking and interacting are important reasons to attend conferences, and you’ll find plenty of opportunities to do this in the virtual venue. Asking questions at presentations and poster sessions has never been easier.

The diverse and exciting programme is the same as was already planned. There will be a mixture of pre-recorded and live presentations, and chairs and speakers will be discussing the talks and your questions live. All presentations will also be available to registered delegates to view afterwards.

So the venue is all set to receive delegates, speakers and even sponsors. Now it is up to you. How will you make this work?

Hopefully you have already submitted your abstracts for the meeting. Have you booked study leave from work? Joining the meeting from your office might not be the best way to learn and participate. So do try to take time off work as you normally would for the meeting, so you can focus on getting the most out of it.

If not at your desk, where else can you be for ESID 2020? Could you be with colleagues (at a safe distance, of course) in a seminar room, perhaps? Use your imagination, have some fun, but above all come and join in as much as possible.

We’re also delighted to welcome our sponsors to the virtual venue. They have enthusiastically supported the move to an online meeting, so make sure to meet up with them in the exhibition.

This is a great opportunity to find out together how we can experience the new world of online conferences. We are confident that the quality of the meeting will be as high as always, and the learning potentially even greater than usual.

We’re really looking forward to welcoming you to explore the first online ESID Meeting in October 2020.

Best regards,
